Airdrop is basically a marketing tactic that uses the free distribution of new cryptocurrencies to drive awareness and build communities easily, it also helps in putting an early value to tokens as recipients may begin to trade their airdropped tokens. If we talk more about airdrops, there are 3 different examples of successful airdrops. Let’s dive into them:
UNI (Uniswap) Airdrop
In 2020, Uniswap, the world’s most popular decentralized exchange (DEX), uses its platform to create native assets for all wallets that have made at least one transaction prior to September 1, 2020. UNI has been expanded. Eligible accounts receive 400 units of underlying assets.
During the event, most recipients immediately abandoned the Airdrop token and UNI changed hands for $ 2. DeFi ecosystem has skyrocketed, rising from $ 2 in April 2021 to the current $ 30.
Ontology (ONT) Airdrop
In 2018, Ontology airdropped its native cryptocurrency, ONT. It was distributed to NEO investors as well as 1,000 ONT was given to the people who simply signed up for this newsletter. It was done to support NEO blockchain users during fundraising. The total amount of airdropped coins was 10 million, worth about $42 million, and was trading at $4.2 per coin at the time.
The token subsequently rallied to nearly $11, amid a deepening bear market that brought the amount down to $100 million. Unfortunately, it’s peak time for sales. ONT has since reverted to a more modest value and is now at just under $2.
In December 2020, 90 million 1inch tokens were airdropped to 55,000 addresses. For the eligibility, an address needed to have traded at least $20 or made four transactions in trading one day before the airdrop day. At launch, the price of 1INCH was around $2.7. Fast-forward to April 2021 and the coin is trading at just over $6.
There is a specific address that received 10 million crazy tokens (9,749,686) during the day of the airdrop, as a reward for their support. That amount is now worth $60.4 million as of April, an increase of about $33 million in less than five months.
